CRATAEGUS A large group of flowering, often fruit and thorn bearing trees suitable for most soils in a sunny position.

Crataegus arnoldiana Clusters of white flowers in May followed by large red fruits which last into winter. rounded lobed mid green leaves, deciduous. Height a small tree 5 to 6 metres. Spread about 5 metres.

Crataegus crus-galli Clusters of white flowers in June are followed by, long lasting, red berries. Has shoots armed with long, curved thorns and oval, glossy, dark green leaves, deciduous. Height to about 5 metres. Spread wider than high to about 7 metres.

Crataegus laevigata ‘Crimson Cloud’ Clusters of crimson flowers each with a yellow centre, May. Rounded, lobed mid green leaves, deciduous. Height a small tree 5 to 6 metres. Spread about 5 metres.

Crataegus x lavalleei Heads of white flowers in June followed by orange-red berries that ripen in September and October. Dark green oval leaves which, deciduous. Almost thornless. Height dense tree to 5 metres. Spread 3 to 5 metres.
