SORBUS Deciduous, flowering trees often having showy berries in the autumn. Suitable for most soils in sun or part shade.

S. aria ‘Chrysophylla’ Clusters of creamy-white flowers in May and June are followed by large deep crimson fruits. Bright yellow leaves, whitish below, from spring until they drop in the autumn. Height 5 to 6 metres. Spread 3 to 5 metres.

S. aria ‘Lutescens’ AGM Cluster of creamy white flowers in May and June, followed by bunches of crimson fruits. Creamy white young leaves becoming grey green by late summer.  Height 5 to 6 metres. Spread 3 to 5 metres.

S. aria ‘Majestica’ AGM Clusters of creamy white flowers in May and June, followed by large bunches of large deep crimson fruits. Large, rounded, grey-green, leaves, white below.

S. aucuparia Clusters of white flowers in April and May followed by dense bunches of red fruits. Bright green leaves made up of numerous deeply cut and toothed leaflets.  Height 5 to 8 metres. Spread 3 to 4 metres.

S. aucuparia ‘Asplenifolia’ Clusters of white flowers in April and May followed by dense bunches of bright red fruits. Bright green leaves made up of numerous deeply cut and toothed leaflets. Height 5 to 8 metres. Spread 3 to 4 metres.

S. cashmiriana AGM Soft pink flowers in April and May followed by gleaming white, marble sized, fruits. Mid green leaves made up of many leaflets, often some autumn colour, deciduous. Height  a small tree 3 to 5 metres. Spread 2 to 3 metres.

S. 'Chinese Lace'

S. commixta Clusters of white flowers in April and May. Bright glossy green leaves of 11 to 15 leaflets, rich autumn colour. Height a small, variable, tree 3 to 5 metres. Spread of 3 to 4 metres. 

S. commixta 'Embley' AGM

S.  x hostii Clusters of pale pink flowers in April and May are followed by bright red berries. Oval green leaves, greyish below. Height a small tree or shrub to 3 metres. Spread 2 to 3 metres.

S. hupehensis ‘Pink Pagoda’ Clusters of white flowers in April and May followed by pink berries which may turn white in winter. Bright green leaves made up of many leaflets, rich autumn colour, deciduous. Height 5 to 6 metres. Spread 3 to 4 metres.

S. ‘Joseph Rock’ White flowers in May are followed by large clusters of small pale yellow berries. Mid-green leaves made up of many leaflets, turn red, orange, copper and purple in autumn, deciduous. Height 5 to 6 metres. Spread 2 to 3 metres.

S. ‘Kirsten Pink’

S. sargentiana AGM Cluster of white flowers in May followed by dense bunches of orange berries. Very distinct, large, sticky buds. Mid green leaves made up of 7 to 11 leaflets, paler below, red autumn colour.  Height 3 to 4 metres. Spread 3 to 4 metres.

S. scalaris Clusters of white flowers in May  and June followed by bunches of bright red berries. Shiny, dark green, leaves made up of many leaflets. Height 3 to 6 metres. Spread 3 to 6 metres.

S. thibetica ‘John Mitchell’ AGM (Was S. Mitchellii') Clusters of white flowers, occasionally followed by orange-red fruits. Large leaves, green above, white below. Height a medium sized tree to about 8 metres. Spread 5 to 6 metres.

S. torminalis Clusters of white flowers in April are followed by russety brown fruits. Glossy, lobed, green leaves, often bronze-yellow autumn colour. Height ascending branches spreading with age, 5 to 6 metres. Spread 3 to 5 metres.

S. vilmorini AGM White flowers in May are followed by clusters of rose-red fruits changing to white flushed pink. Mid-green leaves made up of many leaflets, often rich autumn colour. Height 3 to 4 metres. Spread 2 to 3 metres.
