CATALPA Flowering trees suitable for sunny sheltered sites, the large leaves are likely to be badly damaged in windy positions.

C. bignonioides AGM White flowers marked with yellow and purple appear in July and August followed by long cylindrical pendent pods. Large, heart shaped leaves, purplish at first, deciduous. Height and Spread 5 to 7 metres.

C. bignonoides ‘Aurea’ AGM Large soft yellow, heart shaped, leaves which turn pale green in summer. Flowers 5cm long white with yellow and purple markings, frilled at the mouth on upright 20cm spikes in July. Slender bean-like pods follow.

C. x erubescens 'Purpurea'AGM White flowers marked with yellow and purple appear in July and August. Large, heart shaped leaves, dark purple at first, deciduous. Height 5 metres. Spread 3 to 4 metres.
