Cornus – Large group of plants from shrubs to small trees, for sun and shade in well drained to moist soil.

Cornus alba AureaC. alba  ‘Aurea’ AGM Bright golden yellow leaves in spring turn to yellowish green then brighter yellow in autumn, deciduous. Height and Spread 2 to 2.5 metres.  Prune out some shoots every other year to ensure new growth for the best stem colour. D

C. alba  ‘Sibirica' AGM (Also known as C.a. ‘Westonbirt’) Insignificant flowers. Mid green leaves, pinkish in the autumn, deciduous. Brilliant crimson stems in winter. C. kousa var. chinensis AGM Large white bracts in June followed by Strawberry like fruits.  Green leaves, rich bronze and crimson autumn colour, deciduous. Height 3 metres.  Spread 1.5 to 2 metres. Moist well drained soil in sun or part shade. SH
C. kousa  var. chinensis ‘China Girl’ A free flowering form with white bracts in June often followed by strawberry-like fruits. Oval, dark green leaves turn deep red-purple in autumn, deciduous. Height and Spread 2 to 3 metres. Moist well drained acid soil in a sheltered site. SH
C. kousa ‘Gold Star’  Flower heads of white bracts in June often followed by strawberry like fruits. Oval, glossy, dark green leaves with a central splash of yellow, the centre turns red and the edge purple in the autumn. Height and Spread about 2 to 3 metres. Acid soil. SH

C. kousa ‘ Miss Satomi’ AGM F(was known as 'Satomi')lower heads of deep pink bracts, in June often followed by strawberry-like fruits. Oval, dark green leaves turn deep red-purple in autumn, deciduous. Height and Spread 2 to 3 metres. Moist well drained acid soil in a sheltered site. SH

C. sanguinea Greenish, red flushed stems and rich purple autumn colour. Fruits are black and bitter to taste. Height up to 2.5 metres. Spread 1 metre. Will tolerate most soils. D

C.  sericea ‘Kelseyi’ Mid green leaves on reddish stems, deciduous. Height a dwarf suckering shrub, 0.6 metres. Spread forms a thicket 1 to 2 metres across. Moist, well drained, soil in full sun. D
