ACANTHUS (Bears britches) Tall spikes of flowers. Needs well-drained soil and full sun to flower well. Will grow in partial shade perennials.

A. hungaricus (was longifolius) Mauve flowers. Dull green, deeply cut leaves. Height 90cm. Spread 60cm.

A. mollis Mauve flowers from June to August. Semi-evergreen dull green, cut leaves. Height 120 to 150cm. Spread 90cm.

A. spinosus AGM Stately perennial that has very large, arching deeply cut and spiny pointed, glossy, dark green leaves. Spikes of soft mauve and white flowers appear from June to August. Height 120cm. Spread 60cm.
