Plant Catalogue - Climbers

CLEMATIS Large range of spring, summer and autumn flowering climbers. Generally climb by twining leaf stems around its support. Best in a rich soil with its head in the sun and the roots kept cool and moist in shade. Different varieties have different pruning needs. We are a listed as a stockist of Raymond Evison Clematis which have been widely acclaimed at Chelsea. They are not all currently included in our main list but please do ask for any varieties you are looking for as we may be able to obtain them. Most have Evi as part of their registered name such as C. ANGELIQUE 'Evipo017'

C.'Aljonushka' (was known as C.’Aljonushka’) Rosy-violet, bell shaped with flowers with yellow stamens, July to September. Height 1 to 2 metres, an herbaceous clematis that needs support from a shrub or sticks.

C. alpina ‘Pamela Jackman' AGM Bell shaped azure blue flowers, with creamy centres, April and May. Pale green leaflets. Height 1.8 metres. Prune only to keep in allotted space.

C. armandii ‘ Appleblossom’ AGM Scented, white, flowers, faintly shaded pink, February to April. Long, leathery, green leaves, coppery when young. Evergreen. Height a vigorous climber to 9 metres. Best on a warm, sunny, sheltered wall.

C. armandii ‘Snowdrift’ Pure white with a creamy centre from February to April, scented.  Coppery foliage when young, turning to mid green, evergreen. Height vigorous to 9 metres.  Warm, sunny sheltered wall. Can be damaged in frosty weather. Prune after flowering if necessary.

C. ‘Bill McKenzie' AGM Yellowish, bell shaped, thick sepalled flowers in August and September. Finely cut leaves. Height up to 5 metres. Prune hard in Feb. or March.

C. ‘Duchess of Edinburgh’ Double, rosette shaped, white flowers in May and June.  Mid green leaves. Height 1.8 to 2.4 m. Prune lightly.

C. flammula  Masses of small, white, scented flowers from August to October. Dark green, divided leaves. Deciduous. Height 3.5 metres. Prune hard in February.

C. florida var. sieboldiana White with a central boss of rich purple, like a passion flower, June and July. Dark green leaves. Deciduous to semi-evergreen. Height to 1.8 metres. Can be pruned in the spring. Sunny sheltered site.

C. ‘Hagley Hybrid’ Shell pink flowers with a contrasting chocolate centre, June to September.  Green leaves. Height 1.8 to 2.4 metres.  Prune hard in Feb. or March.

C. ‘Jackmanii Superba’ Large, rich violet purple flowers from July to October.  Green leaves.  Height 1.8 to 2.4 metres.  Prune hard in Feb. or March.

C. ‘Jan Pawel II’ (Pope John Paul II) Whitish flower with a pink tinge and a red centre May, June and September. Mid-green leaves. Height 1.8 to 2.4 m. Prune lightly in July.

C. x jouiniana  Small flowers, white tinted lilac, September and October. Mid to dark green, divided leaves. Deciduous. Height will reach 3 metres if given support, not self-twining. Prune hard in February.

C. x jouiniana ‘Praecox’ Small, pale blue, flowers, August to October. Mid to dark green, divided leaves. Deciduous. Height will reach 3 metres if given support, not self-twining. Prune hard in February.

Clematis 'Lasurstern' Single deep blue flowers with broad tapering wavy edged sepals, May June and again in September. Height 1.8 to 2.4 metres. Prune lightly after first flush of flower.

C. macropetala  Bell shaped, lavender blue flowers, in May and June. Occasionally some later.  Pale green cut leaves. Height 2.4 metres. Prune only to keep in allotted space.

C. mac. ‘Purple Spider’ NEW 1998 Bell shaped, purple flowers with a whitish centre, May and June. Pale green leaflets. Height 2.4 metres.  Prune after flowering to keep in allotted space.

C. macropetala ‘Lagoon’ Bell shaped, deep blue flowers in May and June. Occasionally some later.  Pale green cut leaves. Height 2.4 metres.  Prune only to keep in allotted space.

C. ‘Marie Boisselot’ AGM (Was Known as C. ‘ Mme. Le Coultre’) Large white flowers with a cream centre from May to October.  Green leaves.  Height 1.8 to 2.4 metres.  Prune hard in February or March.

C. ‘Miss Bateman’ AGM White flowers, banded pale green when they first open, appear in May and June. Mid green leaves. Height 1.8 to 2.4 metres. Prune lightly in July.

C. montana ‘Mayleen’ AGM Deep pink flowers with a golden centre, May. Dark green divided leaves. Deciduous. Height up to 9 metres. Will tolerate growing on northerly facing walls. Prune lightly after flowering, if required.

C. montana var. rubens ‘Tetrarose’ AGM Scented, large, rosy-mauve, flowers in May. Dark green divided leaves. Deciduous. Height up to 9 metres. . Will tolerate growing on northerly facing walls. Prune lightly after flowering, if required.

C. ‘Rouge Cardinal’ Crimson velvet flowers with a brownish centre, May, June and September. Mid-green leaves. Height 1.8 to 2.4 m..  Prune lightly in July.

C. ‘Royalty’ AGM Double, rosette shaped, purple flowers from June to September.  Mid green leaves. Height 1.8 to 2.4 m. Prune lightly in July if necessary.

C. tangutica  Lantern-shaped, single yellow flowers 4cm long, from August to October and followed by attractive seed heads. Finely divided mid green leaves.  Height 4 to 5 metres. Prune hard in spring.

C. tex. ‘Etoile Rose’  Nodding, bell shaped flowers, deep cherry pink with pink edges, July to September. Slender green leaves. Height to 1.8 metres. Prune hard in Feb. or March.

C. ‘ The President’ AGM Deep purple-blue flowers silvery on the reverse, June to September. Mid green leaves. Height 2.4 to 3.6 metres. Prune lightly in after flowering, can be hard pruned.

C. x tri. ‘ Rubromarginata’ AGM Masses of small, purple, white, centred scented flowers from August to October. Dark green, divided leaves. Deciduous. Height 3.5 metres. Prune hard in February.

C. ‘Victoria’ Rosy purple flowers, July to September. Mid-green leaves. Height 1.8 to 2.4 m. Prune hard in February.
