Phyllostachys - Moist well drained soil in sun or part shade.

P.  aurea Bright green canes maturing to creamy-yellow. Graceful species forming large clumps. Green leaves. Height 2.5 to 3.5 metres.  Spread 1 to 2 metres. 

P. nigra  Green canes gradually turn dark brown and eventually jet black, the weight of the mid green leaves causes the tips of the canes to arch.  Height 2.5 to 3.5 metres.  Spread 1 to 2 metres.  Best in a sheltered site.
